USG Exchange Alumnus Awarded Best Teacher in Ogun State

Ogun State by Governor Dapo Abiodun awarded Mandela Washington Fellowship alumnus, Ayodele Odeogbola overall Best Teacher as part of events to celebrate this year’s World Teachers Day. Along with the prestigious award, the governor awarded Ayodele a two- bedroom house.

Reflecting back on the importance of the fellowship, Ayodele noted, “the Mandela Washington Fellow experience remains a reference point for practices, innovation and dynamics in education in Ogun State and beyond. These have been achievable milestones through designed Professional Development Plan upon my return from the United States in 2016.”

Ayodele Odegbola is a Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher in the government-owned Abeokuta Grammar School. He participated in the Public Management track of the Mandela Washington Fellowship at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, USA in 2016. Since his return from the fellowship, Ayodele has led several projects aimed at improving the standard of education in Ogun state. He serves annually on the Beyond School Community Challenge, a project designed by the Mandela Washington fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria to inspire high school student to come up with business solutions to issues within their communities. He led a team of students from Ogun state to compete at the University of Delaware’s Horn Entrepreneurship Diamond Challenge in 2019. Ayodele also provided strategic support in the implementation of “OgunDigiClass” the remote learning project by Ogun State Government to engage primary and secondary school students in the state during the COVID-19 pandemic lock down earlier in the year.
